Amy Lamb is an artist based in Bethesda, MD. With a PhD in zoology and postdoctoral experience at the Basel Institute for Immunology in Switzerland and the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, she combines her scientific background with the creative process of photography to produce intimate, close-up botanical still-lifes. Observation is key to Lamb's process. She grows many of the flowers she photographs in her own garden, enabling her to become aware of the cyclical processes of each plant. Working within long-established tradition, her images evoke the painted still lifes of the past well as straight-photography, yet appear remarkably contemporary.
