Pioneers

American Women Modernists

Join an intimate community for five lively discussions on daring female pioneers of Modern Art! This series illuminates how women artists influenced modernism’s evolution in the U.S. and Mexico from 1900 until the Feminist Art Movement. We will discuss women artists within the context of specific art movements and groups where they made their mark, while shedding light the social and artistic challenges they faced in a male-dominated art world. We will examine the history of 20th century modern art through the lens of the woman painter, sculptor and photographer!

  • Modern American Realism: Isabel Bishop and the Fourteenth Street School

  • Precisionism: Georgia O'Keeffe

  • Straight & Documentary Photography: Imogen Cunningham, Dorothea Lange, Tina Modotti
